Worshiping the divine couple of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, Kanak Bhawan is a popular temple of Ayodhya and is also sometimes called the “Sone-ka-Ghar” Mandir due to its grandeur and richness. An important place of worship in the city, the temple was constructed by the Queen of Teekamgarh, Vrishbhanu Kuvari in 1891. According to a local legend, Kanak Bhawan is said to have been gifted by Queen Kaikeyi to Goddess Sita after her marriage to Lord Rama. Queen Kaikeyi was the queen of Ayodhya and one of the three wives of King Dashratha, the father of Lord Rama. Inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple are the three pairs of gold-crowned idols of the divine couple. Originally built by Queen Kaikeyi, the temple was then renovated by King Vikramaditya, and later renovated once again by Vrishbhanu Kuvari. The three pairs are said to have been established by different people at different periods of time. The most recent and the largest pair of idols was installed by Queen Vrishbhanu Kuvari, an older one by King Vikramaditya, and the smallest pair, which is also the oldest was given by Lord Krishna to a woman hermit who meditated to Lord Rama at the site
