Nageshwarnath Temple

One of the top pilgrimage places in Ayodhya, the Nageshwarnath Temple is dedicated to Nageshwarnath, a form of Lord Shiva who is believed to be the god of serpents and is worshiped in the form of the Shivalinga here. An ancient temple, Nageshwarnath Temple is said to have been built by Kush, the son of Lord Rama. One day, while bathing in the Saryu River, Kush lost his armlet, which was found and returned to him by a Nag Kanya. In an effort to honor her kindness and as an act of gratitude, he constructed the Nageshwarnath Temple at the site after understanding that the Nag Kanya was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. The temple, as old as time, has been existing in Ayodhya as a revered site of worship, with the present structure of the temple having been constructed in 1750. Among the popular temples of Ayodhya, Nageshwarnath Temple has devotees coming in from across the country to celebrate the festival of Mahashivratri at the temple, making it the best time to visit the Shaivite temple, where festivities take place on a grand scale and a procession dedicated to Lord Shiva is the highlight
